Fly Fishing & Photography in Jackson Hole, WY – September 2015

What brought us to this special part of the world was Dana’s participation in the Photography at the Summit Nature Workshop.  Held each year in Jackson, this was its 30th Anniversary.  This was not our first time in Jackson, however, and surely won’t be our last. We arrived a couple of days early so we could enjoy the beauty of the American West, and the … Continue reading Fly Fishing & Photography in Jackson Hole, WY – September 2015

Labour Day Weekend in Charlottetown, PEI – September 2015

An easy flight from Toronto, we arrive in Charlottetown to celebrate our anniversary on the long Labour Day weekend.  We stayed in a comfortable B&B, the Elmwood Heritage Inn, owned by a husband and wife team who are long time PEI residents and very knowledgeable about the island.  The Elmwood is a very popular B&B that is a 15 minute walk from the downtown theatre and … Continue reading Labour Day Weekend in Charlottetown, PEI – September 2015

Coast to Coast Newfoundland – July 2015

After landing in Deer Lake, we headed to the West Coast.  Our home for a couple of nights was Neddies B&B, a great location in Norris Point with a 180 degree view of Bonne Bay.  The inn is very clean and also houses the best restaurant in the area, the Black Spruce. On Saturday morning, after checking the weather, we opted to hike Gros Morne … Continue reading Coast to Coast Newfoundland – July 2015

Africa – Zimbabwe, Zambia & Botswana – June 2015

Most would plan a trip like this for a while, as it was a trip of a lifetime.  However, we learned earlier this year that our daughter, and other students at Penn State University, would be traveling to Zambia in June as part of a long-term project of the Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship (HESE) program.  Living and working with locals, farmers, and business people, … Continue reading Africa – Zimbabwe, Zambia & Botswana – June 2015

Oxford & Barcelona – March 2015

This was an exciting two-part trip for us:  Oxford, England and Barcelona. While we had been to Oxford previously, this time we weren’t visiting purely as tourists.  We were visiting our son who was attending Keble College, one of Oxford University’s 38 colleges. After landing in Heathrow and a 45 minute drive to Oxford, we arrived at our home for a few days, the Old … Continue reading Oxford & Barcelona – March 2015

A Week in Warsaw – May 2015

Poland’s Capital city was largely destroyed in WWII, but Warsaw continues to rebound and is rich in National pride. Lazienki Park in central Warsaw was a highlight for us.  It is quite expansive with many great walking paths under huge shade trees.  As beautiful as the park is, its best feature was a Chopin concert in an open-air ampitheater under a modern sculpture of native-son Frederic Chopin.  The … Continue reading A Week in Warsaw – May 2015

Weekend in NYC – July 2015

New York City … there is no other place like it. On this trip we stayed downtown, in the SoHo area.  Our accommodations were at the Four Points Sheraton – a great location, but very small rooms.  A 3* hotel. Start your day with a lovely walk along the High Line rail-trail, a two mile elevated path, complete with gardens.  Completed in 2014 on the West side and located near the … Continue reading Weekend in NYC – July 2015

36 Hours in Ottawa – August 2015

Visiting the capital city of Ottawa is like visiting a bit of old Canada.  Centered by the gothic architecture of Parliament Hill, Ottawa is a very clean and safe city,  and a great walking and biking destination. A 2.5 hour bike ride along the Rideau Canal (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), returning along the Rideau River trail and over the Alexandria bridge into Gatineau, Quebec, was a highlight … Continue reading 36 Hours in Ottawa – August 2015
